But...Couldn't make it through to the end either time, because of my intolerance. haha

Harsh, moi? Which is a pity because it has a great soundtrack by Badly Drawn Boy. Mind you I didn't watch Love Actually either. And are Hugh Grant and Keira Knightley that terrible? What a harsh woman you are to be sure, ha ha.nobodyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13067422372087431256noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7873069687795845648.post-88851945675564774252008-05-16T08:42:00.000+10:002008-05-16T08:42:00.000+10:00I think that I get what you're saying about not be...I think that I get what you're saying about not being able to tolerate movies (actually anything in my case) with liars in them. For me, I can't stand watching/reading them if the liar is being glorified, excused, or justified. But if the lying sack of shite gets her/his due, or if there's actually a moral to the story, then I can not only tolerate it, I can even enjoy it, especially if it's well told.

It's funny, I sorta wish now that I'd seen that movie "blind", without knowing the plot...to see if I would've booked Glass early on. Though I'd not have heard of it without your writing about it. So there ya go ;)

Still, I'm a pretty keen armchair detective/sleuth, especially when the plot involves dysfunctional human psychology/ behaviour (which is most all of the time), so chances are that I would have booked him. Like I said earlier, I think it's due to my personal history/experiences, and not directly a result of me being a friggin' genius. hahahaha

I'm definitely gonna' watch it again though. My favourite movies are those with strong character development, and this one certainly fits the bill.

Love Actually. What a puke title. blecch And with Hugh Grant...geeze could it be a little more saccharine? See to me, that combo is a flashing neon ad for type 1 diabetes! puke.

Sounds familiar though, and I wondered if I'd seen it and was trying to forget it. hahaah Hang on...imdb here I go...

Nope. And it was one of those ensemble thingies it seems. I usually hate those, since they're typically so contrived. And I also saw that Kiera (kant act/paper bag) Knightly was also in it. Oooh, double puke.

Hugh Grant. Doesn't he usually just play [with] himself? Like so many other "actors". pfft

btw, I didn't know that Miyazaki did movies. I've got some shoes by him. You know that gay Jewish fashion designer? I think his first name is Issac.

...just kidding. Doing my best Jessica Simpson impersonation? hahaha

later mite :)annemariehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02543238344282400496noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7873069687795845648.post-2304830243804745602008-05-15T17:10:00.000+10:002008-05-15T17:10:00.000+10:00Onya mate,This was worth writing just for your rea...Onya mate,

This was worth writing just for your reaction alone, ha ha.

Just for the record I have a BIG problem with movies that feature liars. I really can't watch them. Was it Love Actually that had Hugh Grant pretending to be a single dad or something? Can't remember. Anyway once the lying started, that's it, I was outta there. I feel that merely by watching it, I'm complicit, or something.

It's only happened to me once in real life. I had a 'friend' who entangled me into aiding and abetting him sleeping with some woman who was not his wife. And I knew his wife of course. And that was that. I was polite of course, but I ceased to have anything to do with him. I won't be involved in a lie. Well not a bullshit selfish one anyway. This is me we're talking about, so the continuum rules.

But forget all that, this movie sneaks up on you. The lies are actually only revealed as such, with their uncovering. And a good thing too, otherwise I could never have watched it, ha ha.nobodyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13067422372087431256noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7873069687795845648.post-86210691989245819102008-05-15T16:19:00.000+10:002008-05-15T16:19:00.000+10:00Nobody!I watched it. WOWee Zoweee. Holy what an am...Nobody!
I watched it. WOWee Zoweee. Holy what an amazing movie. The acting was outstanding. I loved the film and hated Glass. What a narcissist/ sociopath! He didn't (doesn't) have a single redeeming quality that I could see. btw I've known people like that...in my family too. Anyway...

I also wanted to watch it again, immediately after it ended but didn't only because it was so late. And I reluctantly returned it to the video store today. But will be renting it again, maybe even purchase it.

Glass was irritatingly shallow and over-the-top sacharine --ingratiating, as you well observed. (Smash his teeth in? Boy can I relate.)How can so many people fall for that sorta shite? I dunno' but maybe having grown up with and survived a couple of those head cases, I can now pick 'em out at 50 paces. Swear to gawd.
In fact, they're as transparent as Glass to me.
haha.

Just re-read what you said and it is a rare treasure, this film treatment of this story. And what great insight into the mind of a garden variety narciss/socio. Unfortunately, I really do mean garden variety. There are many. ugh

btw, did you see the 60 Minutes interview with Glass. It was on the vid I rented. No remorse. None, even 5 years after the fact. Kept referring to his past behaviour (habitual and often hateful lies, general scumminess including fraud) as a Mistake.

Late now, must move on and git some shut eye soon. ta mite ;)annemariehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02543238344282400496noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7873069687795845648.post-66762790946401179062008-05-14T08:37:00.000+10:002008-05-14T08:37:00.000+10:00Hey annemarie.
